What is Partial Discharge?

Partial discharge (PD) is a localized dielectric breakdown which does not completely bridge the space between the two conductors.

It occurs in medium and high voltage equipment.

If allowed to progress over time, PD will result in catastrophic equipment failures in the form of explosion and fire.

Types of Partial Discharge

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at support@powerstreamsolutions.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Thin Air Gaps
  • Poor Cable Termination
  • Excess Misalignment
  • Molding Defects
  • Surface Contaminants
  • Uncontrolled Humidity
  • Supply & Load Issues
  • Excessive Harmonics

Time base maintenance is not an effective way to manage the risks associated with MV/HV equipment.

Continuous monitoring of MV/HV equipment is the most effective way to detect issues early, allowing for intervention prior to a catastrophic failure.

Estimated that 85% of catastrophic failure in HV/MV equipment is caused by PD.

Our Solution

PD Annunciator System

Designed by ndb Technologies, the PD Annunciator System is the next generation of partial discharge monitoring. This technology is applicable for medium voltage switchgear and dry type transformers; the design allows for quick and easy installation with various sensor options.

Operational Impact

  • Reduce planned and unplanned downtimes
  • Lower TCO by reducing spend on equipment failure, field labor hours, resources & generator run time
  • Lower Personnel Safety Risk
  • Minimizes Human Interaction

Non-Invasive Installation

Installation of our solution can be accomplished without the need for a system shutdown.

Monitoring Flexibility

From push notifications based on thresholds to comprehensive cloud-based analytics, customers have the flexibility to choose the solution that aligns best with their business requirements

Reduce Planned Shutdowns, Save Resources

With the recent updates to NFPA 70B acknowledging condition-based maintenance and the implementation of 24x7 Partial Discharge Monitoring, maintenance can be decreased by as much as 40%.
